Volkerstevin to build new jetty for Aircraft Carriers

VolkerStevin has been awarded a £34m contract to reconstruct the jetty at Her Majesty's Naval Base Portsmouth to house the new Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers.

HMNB Portsmouth will be home to two new aircraft carriers, the HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales will be the biggest warships ever constructed for the Royal Navy.

Due to the size and extent of the overhang of the flight deck beyond the vessel hull, VolkerStevin plan to execute significant infrastructure improvements to accommodate the ships.

Volkerstevin will be upgrading the current Middle Slip jetty at the Portsmouth naval base to withstand berthing, mooring and operational forces exerted by the new vessels. New power supply will also be installed.

This project will span across a year and a half and will see hundreds of tonnes of steel installed, along with concrete poured to replace or enhance the existing jetty.

VolkerStevin also built the new ammunition facility in Portsmouth Harbour in 2012 to meet the needs of the six Type 45 destroyers based in the city.
